The University of California's 5,358-acre Hopland Research and Education Center has many roles: extensive deer research, general wildlife research, sheep management and outreach to the community to foster youth appreciation of the outdoors. Consistent with promoting youth outdoor activities, and for the first year ever, a youth deer hunt is being offered, on a very limited basis, and we've got one for you!! This wonderful father/son/daughter grandpa/grandchild etc. opportunity is scheduled for one day ONLY: August 16th, 2025. The hunt will be held on the Hopland facility, bounded by ranches, BLM land and vineyards, and abutting the scenic Mayacamas mountains. Hopland is just over two hours north of the Bay Area, and has several quaint restaurants.

This great package includes:
• One day of hunting access to the 5,358 acre HREC site on 8/16 (only)
• A map of the site.
• Use of the HREC skinning shed and cooler to process your deer.
• One youth hunter only, accompanied by a responsible adult.
• One deer tag can be filled as part of this package. No second deer tags can be taken in 2025.
• Hunters must provide their own CA Hunting License and appropriate CDFW deer tag.
• The central area around the University buildings, skinning shed, staff residences, etc., is definitely off limits for hunting and firearms are to be unloaded. This area will be highlighted on the maps provided.
Hopland Recreation and Education Center Coordinator Ms. Hannah Bird will be the contact point for details such as start times, access codes, liability release forms, etc.
